The panorama of water and mineral resources usage in the world is nowadays strongly influenced by the worldwide debate on the planet’s growing environmental degradation and the challenge of creating truly sustainable development for human society.
To reach a solution to this problem, an integrated approach that focuses on decision-making and the concomitant consideration of environmental, social and economical matters is required. Therefore, it becomes necessary to evaluate and solve problems generated by the growingly intensive use of water and mineral resources, from the point of view of both engineering works and sustainability.
